Since that time (over 15 years ago), during our long time in the auto trade, we have fitted, trialed and sold many different vehicle security systems in many different vehicle makes and models. Including customers vehicle's and our own personal ones. 

The more popular brands have all got great systems and their high end alarm kits with 2-way remotes and countless features have all tested out to function and alert as described, though they all suffer in the same areas:

• They all require at least 1 bulky control unit, sometimes 2 and include an excessive amount of wiring that has to be run down the length of the vehicle and underneath trims, neatly hidden. This can take hours and can make it extremely difficult to hide in any area good enough to not be  easily  found. This proves to be more difficult when fitting to a smaller vehicle that already lacks room for storage.

• They all feature flashing L.E.D's intended to deter theft. But to a well trained thief, who has studied the installation manuals of all major anti theft brands, this is all they need to see in order to determine the brand of alarm installed and the typical wiring connection locations that require cutting. It also gives them a trail to follow directly to the control unit in order to quickly find and disable it.

• Another major issue is that on most late model vehicles with key less locking/unlocking and/or push button start comfort access features (Using Proximity Key-Fobs), these alarm systems can't be installed due to the complexity of modern digital communication systems being used by all manufacturers now. Installing these feature-packed anti theft systems into a modern day vehicle will most likely cause electrical faults throughout the vehicle or worse, irreparable damage of control units. Manufacturer after-sales representatives offer add-on alarm kits warranted by the manufacturer, but unfortunately are not good enough to withstand the ever-growing "relay attack" or "replay attack".

• Other digital aftermarket digital alarms that connect to CAN-Bus certainly do exist and may work well, though they too feature quite a large plastic case that is still very bulky, can be easy to find and disable, and still give themselves away with flashing LED's.

After installing and testing their products, we were amazed to find out there was no other Australian distributor of their product, so we partnered with Author Alarm to bring their amazing product to Melbourne, Australia.  Their top-of-the-line device (IGLA Alarm), after 13 years of production and with over 300,000 kits installed around the globe, has not 1 reported case of theft against its name.  All their modules/kits are extremely tiny by design and easily hidden within a factory wiring loom, in most cases requiring only 4 wires to be connected in order to be fully functioning, communicate digitally with your vehicle via the factory CAN and LIN systems and installation is completely stealth as it uses factory warning lights on your dash to communicate when it is armed or disarmed, thus not exposing it's existence at all until theft has been attempted. 

Thanks to the use of digital CAN-Bus communication, installation can be anywhere in the vehicle meaning when professionally installed, a thief would require days to pull the entire car apart in order to find and disable the system.
